ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State women's soccer has placed three members on the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® 4 Team. The award is designed to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Seniors Gabriella Mencotti and Shannon Quinn, along with junior Madz Ham, have been recognized with all-district honors.

The fourth district of Division II encompasses the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). First-team Academic All-District® honorees, announced Thursday by CoSIDA, advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.

Mencotti, the 2017 GLIAC Player of the Year, is currently second in the nation in goals (26) and total points (61) to go along with a 3.73 cumulative GPA as a double-major in marketing and finance. Quinn and Ham each earned first-team All-GLIAC honors this season as huge pieces of a defense that has pitched 16 shutouts this season, including a string of ten straight clean sheets earlier this season and a stretch of 950 minutes without conceding a goal. Both Ham and Quinn boast cumulative GPAs of 3.92, with Quinn majoring in biomedical sciences and Ham in public and non-profit administration.

Grand Valley State Women's Soccer has posted 16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® recipients in program history, including Mencotti in 2016 and Quinn in 2015. The Lakers begin play in the NCAA Tournament this Sunday (Nov. 12) in the second round of the competition, hosting the winner of McKendree and Ohio Dominican, which will be played Friday (Nov. 10) at the GVSU Soccer Field.
