GVSU Clinches 13th Straight GLIAC Regular Season Title; League Tournament Set

2017 GLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

BAY CITY, Mich. — The Grand Valley State women's soccer team finished the GLIAC regular season schedule with a perfect 9-0 record to capture the GLIAC regular season title for the 13th consecutive season. GVSU will also hold the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament which begins Tuesday, October 31st with quarterfinal action at campus sites.
 
The Lakers have been outright or co-champions of the GLIAC Regular Season Championship in every season dating back to 2007, and have now clinched it outright in three straight seasons. 

No. 8 Michigan Tech will travel to Allendale to battle the top-seeded Lakers in quarterfinal action at 3 PM on Tuesday, October 31st. GVSU boasts the conferences top scoring offense with 44 goals scores in league action along with a league-best 21 scores from senior Gabriella Mencotti - nine more than her closest competitor (Morgan Bittengle, Ashland). MTU goalkeeper Kirsen Hudak leads the league in save percentage at .851.

No. 2 Ashland will welcome No. 7 Northern Michigan to Ohio in the opening round action. Ashland's Kelsey McKernan is tied for the league lead with seven assists on the year. AU defeated NMU back on October 15th by a final score of 4-1. Northern Michigan is the lone GLIAC team to score against Grand Valley State this season.

Ferris State earned the No. 3 seed following a 6-3 mark in conference play and will play host to No. 6 Saginaw Valley State at 3 PM in quarterfinal action. FSU features a balanced attack with the second most goals scored in league play (23) as well as the second fewest goals allowed in conference matches (7).
 
The No. 4 seed goes to Tiffin who finished with a 6-3 mark as well just one year after finishing last in the conference. The Dragons will host No. 5 Davenport as the Panthers make their postseason debut in the GLIAC. 

Winners from the quarterfinal round will advance to semifinal action on Friday, November 3rd at the highest remaining seed with the title match slated for Sunday, November 5th.
