BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the first weekend of competition to begin the 2017 women's soccer season. Northwood freshman forward Ashton Brooks earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Michigan Tech freshman goalkeeper Amanda Young claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Ashton Brooks, Northwood
Northwood freshman forward Ashton Brooks scored a pair of goals on the road at Malone in a 3-1 victory for the Timberwolves, including the game-winning score as NU went 1-1 on the opening weekend. Brooks posted six total shots in the Malone contest, including three of those on target.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Amanda Young, Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech freshman goalkeeper Amanda Young had a great start to her collegiate career in Tech's two matches over the weekend. Young combined for 13 saves as she played in the second half of each contest. She recorded 10 of her saves and a victory in the 1-0 decision against Winona State. She averaged 6.5 saves per game in 90 minutes in front of the net.
