Saginaw Valley's Giambanco, Grand Valley State's Quinn Selected GLIAC Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 3 of the 2017 women's soccer season. Saginaw Valley sophomore midfielder Valentina Giambanco earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Grand Valley State senior defender Shannon Quinn claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Valentina Giambanco, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley sophomore midfielder Valentina Giambanco recorded three goals and one assist this weekend including the game-winning double overtime goal in the 107th minute against Northern Michigan on Friday. Giambanco registered five points on two goals and an assist in the win over NMU, while also scoring the first goal of Sunday's match in the 20th minute in a 2-1 double overtime loss at Michigan Tech.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shannon Quinn, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior defender Shannon Quinn anchored a backline for the Lakers in a pair of shutout victories this weekend over Ashland and Tiffin. Quinn was key player for the Laker defensive that only allowed a total of 13 shots and five shots on goal during the two games. Quinn was an excellent ball winner and tackler, and smart in distributing the ball out of the back to her teammates.
