GVSU's Mencotti, Johnson Sweep GLIAC Women's Soccer Week 6 Laurels

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 6 of the 2017 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State senior forward Gabriella Mencotti earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Grand Valley State senior midfielder Dani Johnson claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Gabriella Mencotti, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior forward Gabriella Mencotti posted back-to-back hat tricks for the first time in her career. Mencotti amassed seven goals and two assists as part of a 2-0 road trip to Ohio this week. She got started on Friday with four goals and an assist in a 7-0 victory over Ashland before notching three goals and an assist in a 5-0 win at Tiffin. Mencotti tallied 15 shots during the weekend with 11 of those coming on target for the No. 4 Lakers.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Dani Johnson, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior midfielder Dani Johnson was a spectacular tackler and aerial presence all weekend, helping her team to a pair of shutouts running it to ten straight shutouts for the No. 4 Lakers. Johnson and her GVSU teammates started the weekend with a 7-0 shutout on the road at Ashland where the Lakers did not allow a single shot on goal and just three total shots. On Sunday, GVSU posted a 5-0 victory at Tiffin while allowing one shot on target, which came 2:13 into the contest.
