GLIAC -- The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers (16-0-1, 8-0-0 GLIAC) clinched the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season championship for the 14th consecutive season following a thrilling 2-1 double overtime road victory over No. 12 Ferris State (12-3-2, 4-2-2 GLIAC), 2-1.

Ferris State took a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute when Pia Nagel recorded her ninth goal of the year cashing in on a pass from Abigail Gilmore. GVSU responded quickly just 76 seconds later when a handball in the penalty area gave the Lakers a PK, which Cecilia Steinwascher converted for her first goal of the season.

That score would hold until the 105th, when a corner kick, inserted by Steinwascher, was juggled around in front of goal before Haley Dehaan volleyed the ball to herself and lofted a shot over the Bulldog keeper and into the net to ignite the dog pile and celebrate a GLIAC title.

Grand Valley State will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament which begins Tuesday, October 30th with quarterfinal action taking place on campus sites. The semifinal rounds and championship matches will take place at the highest remaining seed on Friday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 4.
