Ashland's Lee, Grand Valley State's Cook Garner GLIAC Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the second weekend of competition to begin the 2018 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State sophomore forward Ava Cook earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Ashland sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Lee claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ava Cook - Grand Valley State

A constant motor around the net, Grand Valley State sophomore forward Ava Cook took 12 shots, putting seven on target and scored twice. Both goals came within two minutes of each other early in the second half Sunday to make it a three-goal lead and give GVSU all the momentum the rest of the way. Cook drew a foul and yellow card on the Bridgeport goalkeeper just outside the penalty area that set up a free kick goal and had a few great chances turned aside by stellar saves. GVSU earned a pair or victories over Ohio Valley (1-0) and Bridgeport (6-0).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hannah Lee - Ashland

Ashland sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Lee put together consecutive shutouts last week as the Eagles continued their season-opening unbeaten streak to four games. Lee made three saves in 3-0 win over Notre Dame last Wednesday, and made three more stops in a 2-0 win against Bridgeport on Friday. For the season, she has a 0.47 goals against average and nine saves.
