Grand Valley State's Steinwascher, Saginaw Valley's Giambanco Earn GLIAC Women's Soccer Weekly Accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the eighth week of competition to begin the 2018 women's soccer season. Saginaw Valley State junior midfielder Valentina Giambanco earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Grand Valley State sophomore defender Cecilia Steinwascher claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Valentina Giambanco - Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State junior midfielder Valentina Giambanco earned two more goals in the GLIAC action against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan, along with a helper against Huskies, leading Giambanco to five points on the weekend. Giambanco is first at SVSU for total goals and is tied for third in the GLIAC. 


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cecilia Steinwascher - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore defender Cecilia Steinwascher scored the equalizer and assisted on the game-winner in double overtime against No. 12 FSU to clinch a 14th straight GLIAC regular season title. GVSU then went on to pitch a 1-0 shutout victory on the road on Northwood on Sunday in which the Lakers allowed three NU shot attempts and no shots on target.
