ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The top-seed and nationally-ranked No. 1 team in the country, Grand Valley State University, clinched its 12th straight GLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Championship on Sunday (Nov. 4) with a 4-0 victory over No. 2 Ferris State on the campus of Grand Valley State University. The Lakers, now 20-0-1 on the year, will earn the conference's automatic berth into next week's NCAA Tournament.

GVSU scored three first-half goals in less than two minutes starting with Raemi DeWent's score in the 28th minute from Caitie Baron and Riko Sagara to open the scoring. 21 seconds later, Sagara capitalized on an opportunity  to give GVSU a 2-0 edge.

Ava Cook finished the plethora of goals when she side-stepped the defender and finished her 17th goal off the season after a pass from Tara Lierman put her in position for the score in the 30th minute. After a scoreless battle for much of the second half, Baron poured in her fourth goal of the season with a laser that beat the FSU keeper far side to give the Lakers the 4-0 victory.

Grand Valley State recorded 18 shots, including eight on target while limiting Ferris State to two total shots and one on net opportunity. Both GVSU and FSU will likely host regional competition next weekend. NCAA official announcement will take place 6:30 p.m.
