2019 GLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
GLIAC – The 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer awards have been announced after voting conducted by the league's coaches.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Riko Sagara, Grand Valley St.
Riko Sagara earns her second straight Offensive Player of the Year award with stellar statistics, particularly in conference play. Overall, Sagara has 13 goals, 17 assists and 43 points. Her point total is second in the GLIAC and she is atop the conference – and second in the country – in assists. Of her 13 goals, 10 came in GLIAC play while nearly half her assists were during the conference slate to give her the most in-conference points across the league. She also scored three game-winning goals during the Lakers' 9-0 run through the GLIAC.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Cecilia Steinwascher, Grand Valley St.
Cecilia Steinwascher is now a two-time GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year after her second straight selection. Starting every match at center back, Steinwascher is the leader of a back line that leads all of Division II in goals-against average. The team swept through conference play without allowing a single goal; the first time in the 25-year history of GLIAC women's soccer a team has accomplished such a feat. Overall, the Lakers have posted 15 shutouts this season, including a run of 13 straight that spanned the conference schedule.
FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR - Chantel Carranza, Grand Valley St.
Chantel Carranza took flight during conference play, scoring 12 of her 17 overall goals in the GLIAC slate. Twice she scored four goals in single matches, tied for the most by a Laker this season and one shy of the GVSU all-time single-match record. She had five assists on the year – four in conference action – for 39 points on the season, good for third in the GLIAC. Carranza has been responsible for five game-winners this season, which is tied for the league high.
GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR - Hannah Lee, Ashland
Ashland University junior Hannah Lee is the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight season. She is the first goalkeeper in program history to be named to the All-GLIAC first team in consecutive seasons. After winning the award last season, Lee followed up with another excellent season between the posts for the Eagles, who are the No. 3 seed in the GLIAC Tournament. Lee ranks third in the GLIAC with a 0.79 goals against average, allowing just 12 goals in 15 games. She also is third in save percentage (.840) and has been involved in seven shutouts. Lee made a career-high 10 saves in a 2-0 win at Parkside on Oct. 6 and made eight stops in a 3-1 win at Ferris State on Sept. 29.
COACH OF THE YEAR - Jeff Hosler, Grand Valley St.

The Lakers went a perfect 9-0 in the conference season, making history as the first-ever team to go the entire GLIAC schedule without conceding a goal. So far, the Lakers have shut out 15 opponents this year, including a run of 13 straight. The team won a 15th straight GLIAC regular season title, are the top seed in the GLIAC Tournament and currently sit as the number one seed in the Midwest Region.
