GVSU's Cook, FSU's Dickens Garner GLIAC Women's Soccer Weekly Accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first weekend of the 2021 spring Women's Soccer season. Grand Valley State junior forward Ava Cook earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Ferris State senior defender Maddie Dickens claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ava Cook - Grand Valley State

Ava Cook has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2021 spring season. Cook, the active NCAA DII leader in career goals, netted a hat-trick, including the game-winner, in a 7-0 win over Northern Michigan on Friday and also contributed an assist. The Battle Creek, Michigan native is a two-time All-American and three-time All-GLIAC performer. Behind Cook the Lakers scored nine goals on opening weekend, going 1-0-1 to start the spring campaign.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Maddie Dickens - Ferris State

Ferris State senior defender Maddie Dickens helped the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 start over the weekend as FSU posted two road shutout wins. Dickens had an assist in Sunday's 4-0 road win at Purdue Northwest and started both games on the weekend in a strong defensive performance for the Bulldogs. FSU utilized two different goalkeepers and outshot the opposition 38-8 in the two outings combined.
