GVSU's Metzger and MTU's VanLangevelde earn women's soccer GLIAC Player of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 6 of the 2022 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State fifth-year senior forward Kennedy Metzger earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Michigan Tech senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kennedy Metzger, Grand Valley State

Kennedy Metzger (Naperville, Ill.) has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. Metzger notched a goal and assist in the 5-1 win over Davenport on Friday night. That goal was Metzger’s third of the season and second assist. The Lakers are in first place in the GLIAC standings at the halfway point of conference play. GVSU will travel to the U.P this weekend to face Michigan Tech on Friday and Northern Michigan on Sunday. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gracie VanLangevelde, Michigan Tech

Senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde earned her fifth shutout of the season in the scoreless tie against No. 22 Northern Michigan. The Spring Lake, Michigan, native made six saves against the fifth-best scoring offense (3.40) in the nation in Northern Michigan. The tie marks the first time this season that the Wildcats were shut out.
