DU's Van Antwerpen and NU's Velichko receive GLIAC Tennis Player of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its first tennis weekly awards for the 2022 campaign. Davenport graduate student Juan-Louis Van Antwerpen earned Men's Player of the Week, while Northwood senior Liza Valichko was awarded Women's Player of the Week. 


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Juan-Louis Van Antwerpen - Davenport 

Juan-Louis van Antwerpen (Johannesburg, South Africa) picked up a pair of singles wins last week in matches against Hope and Tiffin. He defeated Jacob Burkett of Hope 6-3, 6-1 on Friday and then won 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday against Michael Gurtner of Tiffin. He was now won four straight singles matches in duals. van Antwerpen is climbing the career singles wins chart at Davenport with 54 and needs five more to tie the all-time mark set by Tyler Chambers (2009-14).


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Liza Velichko - Northwood

Elizaveta Velichko (Sochi, Russia) led Northwood to a season-opening 5-2 win over Tiffin Saturday afternoon, picking up a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. She defeated Emily Barrett 6-2, 6-4 at the top position. Velichko earned First Team All-GLIAC honors in 2021.
