WSU's Spicer and GVSU's Leko earn GLIAC Tennis Player of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fifth weekly tennis awards for the 2022 campaign. Wayne State redshirt sophomore Dom Spicer was selected as men's player of the week, while Grand Valley State senior Marija Leko received the women's player of the week award. 


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dom Spicer, Wayne State

Dom Spicer (London, England) has earned his first GLIAC Player of the Week honor this season after collecting a 4-0 record between singles and doubles this past weekend in Indianapolis. Playing at No. 8-ranked Indianapolis on Saturday, Spicer didn't drop a set, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. His opponent was ranked among the top 50 players in the country in the initial ITA rankings. He also played with Luke Laws at No. 2 doubles, where the duo notched a 6-1 win. Following that performance, Spicer had another dominant outing, winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while also pairing with Laws to collect a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles against Southern Indiana on Sunday. 


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Marija Leko, Grand Valley State

Marija Leko (Belgrade, Serbia) went 2-0 this past weekend to help the Lakers improve to 5-2 on the season. Leko claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No.1 singles against Spring Hill College. She teamed up with Marily Canellopoulos to claim a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
