WSU's Spicer and GVSU's Griva earn GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its eighth weekly tennis awards for the 2022 campaign. Wayne State redshirt sophomore Dom Spicer was named men's player of the week, while Grand Valley State sophomore Vasileia Griva was selected as women's player of the week.


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dom Spicer, Wayne State

Redshirt sophomore Dom Spicer (London, England) helped Waynbe State collect a pair of 6-1 victories at Purdue Northwest (March 25th) and at No. 23-Davenport (March 26th).  Against the Pride, he posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.  Playing with Luke Laws at No. 2 doubles, the duo recorded a 6-4 win. The following day against the top-25 Panthers, Spicer continued his string of solid tennis.  He claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles, while pairing with Laws to register a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. In the latest ITA rankings, Spicer was listed as the No. 29 overall singles player, which makes him the highest rated player in the conference. 

WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vasileia Griva, Grand Valley State

Vasileia Griva (Athens, Greece) went 4-0 this past weekend to help GVSU defeat Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech. Griva went 2-0 in singles with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. She also went 2-0 in doubles with both wins at No. 2 doubles. GVSU is now 3-0 in GLIAC play.
