WSU's Grey and Ruyssen recognized with GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth tennis weekly awards for the 2023 campaign. Wayne State swept the honors with junior Daniel Grey receiving men's player of the week recognition and junior Anais Ruyssen earning women's player of the week.

MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Daniel Grey, Wayne State

Wayne State University junior Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) receives his first GLIAC Player of the Week honor by tallying a 2-1 singles record and 3-0 doubles mark (with Cedric Drenth) in Springfield, Mo. last weekend. Grey picked up singles wins over Northwest Missouri State's Fabian Calloud (7-6, 6-3) on Saturday (Feb. 25) and then finished the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Marlon Wilken of Drury on Sunday (Feb. 26). The Green and Gold won both matches and the victories moved the junior to 6-0 at No. 2 singles. In doubles, Grey and Drenth defeated all three opposing duos from the No. 1 doubles spot to improve to 8-3 this spring as a tandem.

WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Anais Ruyssen, Wayne State

Improving to a spotless 9-0 record this spring, and helping WSU to the same ledger, Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) defeated all three singles rivals and all three doubles opponents (with Marta Komar). All wins were picked up at the No. 1 spot for both. The Wayne State University junior began action in Springfield, Mo. last weekend by handling Southwest Baptist's Paula Ballesteros 6-3, 6-1 on Friday (Feb. 23), then defeated Vera Alenicheva of Northwest Missouri State by matching 6-3, 6-3 scores on Saturday (Feb. 24). Ruyssen wrapped up action over the weekend by knocking off Nastasia Jedrychowski of Drury (6-1, 6-1) on Sunday (Feb. 26). It's her second GLIAC Player of the Week honor in her career.
