FSU's Lortie and GVSU's Griva selected for GLIAC Tennis Player of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth tennis weekly awards for the 2024 campaign. Ferris State senior Benjamie Lortie received men's player of the week recognition, while Grand Valley State Vasileia Griva was named women's player of the week.


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Benjamie Lortie, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior standout Benjamin Lortie led the Bulldogs to three consecutive victories at home this past weekend as FSU improved to 5-1 overall this year. Lortie went unbeaten on the weekend, posting a 2-0 singles record at the number one flight along with a 1-0 doubles mark at the top spot in the lineup. He earned a three-set triumph over Grace's Javi Gallego on Friday to open the weekend, pulling out a 6-4 win in the final frame at the one spot. The FSU senior then won in straight-sets on Saturday at the top flight in FSU's 7-0 regional sweep over Lewis before closing the weekend by teaming up with Esunge Ndumbe for a 6-3 victory at one doubles in Sunday's 6-1 regional victory over Hillsdale.


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vasileia Griva, Grand Valley State

Vasileia Griva has been named the Women's Tennis Player of the week for the first time this season. Griva posted a 4-0 overall record on the weekend to help the Lakers defeat Lewis and Northwood. She went 2-0 in singles action from the top singles position. Griva also went 2-0 in doubles play from the number two position. Griva is now 5-2 on the season in singles play all from the top position.
