GVSU's Zamaraiev and FSU's Waller selected as GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its eighth weekly tennis awards for the 2024 campaign. Grand Valley State sophomore Denys Zamaraiev earned GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Ferris State senior Morgan Waller received GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors. 


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Denys Zamaraiev, Grand Valley State

Denys Zamaraiev has been named the GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time this season. Zamaraiev posted a 2-0 record at the top singles position to help the Lakers to a pair of GLIAC wins against Purdue Northwest and Davenport. He recorded a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win against Purdue Northwest and a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win against Davenport. Zamaraiev is 12-2 overall in singles action this season and 7-1 from the top singles position. 


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Morgan Waller, Ferris State

Ferris State University’s Morgan Waller led the Bulldogs to a pair of wins in their first two GLIAC matches of the season last week as FSU topped both Davenport and Purdue Northwest in road action. Waller earned a straight-set win at the top singles flight in FSU’s narrow 4-3 win over DU and she also teamed up with Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer for a 6-4 doubles victory at the number one position in the lineup. On Saturday, the duo came back for a 6-2 triumph at one doubles and Waller was a three-set winner at one singles in FSU’s 5-2 road win at PNW. For the week, she went 4-0 for the Bulldogs in singles and doubles play combined.
