PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Lake Erie College Athletic Director Reid Guarnieri announced the hiring of new Storm volleyball Head Coach Kevin Foeman and assistant coach Remy McBain Friday (March 20).
Foeman takes over the helm at Lake Erie after successful stints at Hillsdale College, the University of Mary Washington, at the club level, and as a player.
"We had a very competitive class of candidates for this position but ultimately, we concluded Kevin was the perfect fit for Lake Erie and for where we want to take the volleyball program," said Guarnieri. "We view it as one of our premier sports and we want to not only provide our student-athletes with an excellent experience, but also to be competitive in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)."
Foeman was a member of the Hillsdale staff since 2013 where he was very involved as an assistant coach handling recruiting, organizing, promoting and running camps, leading strength and conditioning sessions, scouting, and training blockers. In addition to his duties with the volleyball team, Foeman served as the Assistant Director of Recreation and Sports and taught a course in the general dynamics of wellness. Also during his time at Hillsdale, Foeman developed and directed the Charged Up Volleyball Club, serving as Head Coach of the 18U and 14U National Teams and Co-Head Coach of the 16U National Team.
Immediately prior to Hillsdale, Foeman coached two other club volleyball teams in Columbia, Maryland and served as an assistant coach with his alma mater, the University of Mary Washington. As a staff member for the Eagles' volleyball and baseball teams from 2009-2012, Foeman directed strength and conditioning programs and helped with community outreach, founding Reading Day at Moss-Nuckols Elementary School. He also established the Mary Washington Alumni Association, helping to organize alumni games.
In addition to his coaching career, Foeman had a prolific playing career in baseball. At Mary Washington, Foeman was named an NCAA Division III All-American in 2004 and a CoSIDA All-American in 2005. From 2006-2012, Foeman played in the San Francisco Giants organization. He also remains an avid volleyball player playing at different levels throughout his career.
Foeman graduated from Mary Washington in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In 2013, he received his MBA from Mary Washington. Foeman also holds personal training certifications with American Fitness Professionals, American Council on Exercise and Resisted Movement Training.
"Kevin has had some incredible experiences in athletics and has been mentored by one of Division II's most respected head coaches in Hillsdale's Chris Gravel," continued Guarnieri. "We have every confidence that Kevin will make an immediate and substantial impact on our program."
Guarnieri also announced the hiring of Remy McBain as an assistant coach.
McBain served as an assistant at Hillsdale during the fall season, working with setters. Prior to coaching at Hillsdale, McBain served as the Director of Volleyball Operations at the University of Maryland, where she played in college.
At Maryland, McBain served as a two-year captain and currently ranks fifth all-time in Terrapin history in assists. After college, McBain played volleyball professionally in Puerto Rico with the Mayaguez Indias as well as with the Puerto Rican National Team.
"We are also very fortunate to be adding an assistant with the resume of Remy McBain's," continued Guarnieri. "Remy performed at an extremely high level collegiately and professionally and we think her experiences will bring much value to the program."
McBain earned her Bachelor of Science in Family Science from Maryland in 2013.
