SAULT STE. MARIE – Lake Superior State volleyball coach Jennifer Constantino has been promoted to a full-time position as LSSU’s officer of NCAA compliance, Director of Athletics Kris Dunbar announced today.

During her first two seasons at LSSU, Constantino served as a full-time volleyball head coach and part-time compliance officer. Compliance and eligibility responsibilities were also divided among Dunbar and LSSU Faculty Representative Brian Snyder. This duty change brings LSSU in line with NCAA mandates.

“Jennifer has done an excellent job working in the athletic department, on a part-time basis, overseeing the compliance areas,” said Dunbar, who will immediately begin a search for a new head coach. “Maintaining compliance for a department that houses both DII and a DI sport is a large responsibility. Jennifer's education and experience will help elevate the level of compliance that is needed to run an athletic department and stay on top of NCAA and conference rules.”

“Division II recently increased its expectations when its members adopted a new policy requiring compliance officers to be devoted full-time to compliance duties. In other words, compliance officers at DII schools can’t also have coaching or other responsibilities at the school,” the NCAA operating manual states.

Constantino is also responsible for compliance for the Lakers’ Division I hockey program. Her efforts include assisting and educating staff and student-athletes with interpreting NCAA, conference and University rules and regulations, and documenting potential NCAA violations. She monitors recruiting logs, playing and practice session logs, official visits, camps and clinics, and the complimentary ticket process. She maintains student-athlete eligibility, amateur status and employment data.

Constantino, a Philadelphia native, is a 2004 graduate of Haverford College and earned a juris doctor degree from Villanova in 2007. Prior to coaching at LSSU, she was the head volleyball coach at Quincy and Albright for a combined five seasons.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the LSSU volleyball team for the past two years,” Constantino said. “It is difficult to leave coaching and my team, but I look forward to focusing on NCAA compliance and working with all of Lake State's athletic teams."
