Field Set for 2018 GLIAC Volleyball Tournament; Quarters Start Wednesday

2018 GLIAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

GLIAC -- The field for the 2018 GLIAC Volleyball Tournament has been finalized and the top seed will go to the Ferris State Bulldogs who finished the conference schedule with a perfect 16-0 record to capture their fifth-consecutive league crown and 15th in program history. GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal action will begin Wednesday, November 7th on campus sites. Winners will advance to the campus of the highest remaining seed for semifinal action on Friday (Nov. 9) and the title match on Saturday (Nov. 10).

The Bulldogs, who are 23-4 overall on the year, will matchup with No. 8 Parkside who went 5-11 on the year in league play. FSU swept the Rangers on the first night of conference action back on September 7th. 

Michigan Tech earned the No. 2 seed with a 14-2 league record as the Huskies earned a head-to-head tiebreaker over No. 3 Ashland thanks to a 5-set victory earlier in the year. The Huskes will welcome No. 7 Grand Valley State to Houghton on Wednesday, while the Eagles host No. 6 Davenport in Ohio. Tech swept GVSU in late September with AU taking down DU twice this year.

The fourth and final quarterfinal match will feature No. 4 Saginaw Valley (11-5) awaiting No. 5 Wayne State (10-6) inside Cardinal Gym. The Cardinals defeated the Warriors 3-1 back in mid-September.

Individually, Michigan Tech's Olivia Ghormley led the conference with an average of 4.92 kills per set in league matches, while Hailey Richardson was second at 4.44 kills per set. Her teammate Laura DeMarchi paced the GLIAC with 11.96 assists per set along with Ashland setter Zoey Peck in second who registered 11.58 assists. Ferris State's Katie Placek posted a league-best 5.34 digs per set with Wayne State's Ellie Rodriguez not far behind at 5.25 per set. The top two blockers in the league reside at Davenport: Ashley VanderHorst 1.37 and Jessica Marvin 1.20.
