Wayne State's Richardson, Michigan Tech's Widen Collect GLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the ninth weekend of the 2018 volleyball season. Michigan Tech junior Emilia Widen earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Wayne State senior Hailey Richardson captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Emilia Widen - Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech junior middle blocker Emilia Widen played a vital role in Michigan Tech going 2-0 against Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State, combining for 19 kills on 28 attacking attempts with zero errors for a .679 hitting percentage, along with two digs and two total blocks. Against Saginaw Valley State, Widen scored a career-high 12 kills on 19 attempts in a 3-1 win over the Cardinals. Against the Lakers, Widen finished with seven kills on nine attempts for a hitting percentage of .778 in the team's 3-0 win.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hailey Richardson - Wayne State

Wayne State senior co-captain Hailey Richardson pushed Wayne State to 8-5 and sole possession of second place within the GLIAC South Division with wins at Davenport and Grand Valley State. Richardson totaled 38 kills (4.75 per set) and 24 digs (3.00 per set). She posted her 12th double-double on Friday at DU with 19 kills and 15 digs and followed with a 19-kill and nine-dig performance at GVSU.
