Michigan Tech's Ghormley, Wayne State's Wagner Highlight GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the opening weekend of the 2019 volleyball season. Michigan Tech's junior outside hitter Olivia Ghormley earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Wayne State sophomore outside hitter Taylor Wagner captured GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades. 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Olivia Ghormley, Michigan Tech 

Michigan Tech junior outside hitter Olivia Ghormley was named to the Keweenaw Classic All-Tournament Team after racking up 60 kills with a .320 hitting percentage and 41 percent kill percentage on the weekend. She was the only player in the GLIAC to hit over .300 and have over four kills per set and had the highest hitting percentage (.320) in the GLIAC among attackers who had over 100 attempts. She also had the second-most points per set on the weekend (4.4) in the North Division and third-most in the whole league. Ghormley had double-digit kills in three of the four matches. She had eight kills and three blocks against Southwest Minnesota State, 12 kills versus Mary and back-to-back 20 kill matches with 20 kills and a .514 hitting percentage against Minnesota Crookston, and 20 kills versus Upper Iowa.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Taylor Wagner, Wayne State

Sophomore Taylor Wagner helped Wayne State win three of four matches at the Ferris State Invitational. She finished with a tournament-best 61 kills (3.59/set) and 66 digs (3.88/set). Wagner posted three double-doubles, including a career-best 20 kills on Saturday and a career-high 23 digs on Thursday night. She finished with a .194 hitting percentage.  For her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament Team following the three-day event.
