Ferris State's Cappel, Ashland's Krupar earn GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week two of the 2019 volleyball season. Ashland sophomore outside hitter Erin Krupar earned GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week honors, while Ferris State senior outside hitter Allyson Cappel captured GLIAC Volleyball North Division Player of the Week accolades. 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Allyson Cappel, Ferris State


Ferris State University senior hitter Allyson Cappel tallied 60 kills with 49 digs, five blocks and two aces as the Bulldogs split four matches against some of the nation's top competition at the prestigious Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver. Cappel averaged 3.75 kills and 3.06 digs per set while hitting .174 overall for an average of 4.1 points per match in the stretch. She totaled 19 kills with 15 digs in FSU's exciting 3-2 victory over #13 Barry (Fla.) to close out the tournament which came on the same day as she notched 13 kills and 14 digs in a 3-0 sweep over #1 Tampa (Fla.) as the Bulldogs finished with back-to-back victories. She also had 20 kills and 11 digs in the tournament-opening 3-2 setback to #24 West Florida while adding eight kills and nine digs versus #10 Concordia-St. Paul.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Erin Krupar, Ashland

Krupar helped the Eagles (6-2) finish 2-2 at the Hillsdale Tournament and was named to the all-tournament team. It is the first GLIAC weekly honor of the season for an AU player. The Eagles won GLIAC South weekly awards five times in 2018. She finished the week with 59 kills (4.54 per set) and hit an efficient .248 across 13 sets played. Krupar also averaged 2.62 digs and 0.92 blocks on defense.
