FSU's O'Connell, GVSU's Jacquay Claim GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its third weekly awards of the 2021 GLIAC volleyball season. Ferris State Senior Katie O'Connell earned North Division honors, while Grand Valley State sophomore Rachel Jacquay was awarded GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades. 


 NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Katie O'Connell, Ferris State

The senior standout led FSU to an impressive weekend sweep over previously unbeaten and GLIAC leader Ashland at home this past weekend. O'Connell tallied 41 kills with 49 digs, eight blocks and an ace on the weekend, averaging 5.86 kills and 7.00 digs per set while hitting an impressive .379 overall. She had 24 kills and 26 digs while notching her 1,000th career dig in Friday's 3-1 win over the Eagles before coming back with a match-high 17 kills and 23 digs in Saturday's 3-0 sweep to finish the homestand.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Rachel Jacquay, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore setter Rachel Jacquay totaled 93 assists (10.3 per set), 29 digs, and nine kills for the Lakers in a weekend sweep of Saginaw Valley State. On Friday, the Fort Wayne, Ind. native tallied a career-high 57 assists and 14 digs before adding 36 assists, 15 digs, and six kills in Saturday's 3-1 victory. Jacquay currently ranks fourth in the GLIAC in assists with 232.
