MTU's Ghormley, AU's Peiffer Claim GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth weekly awards of the 2021 GLIAC volleyball season. Michigan Tech senior Olivia Ghormley was named North Division Player of the Week, while Ashland senior Brooke Peiffer was selected GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week. 


 NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Olivia Ghormley - Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech's Olivia Ghormley led the Huskies to a weekend sweep of No. 25 Ferris State. She tallied 40 kills while hitting .330 on the weekend. The senior from Oneida, Wisconsin added three block assists and a pair of digs. Ghormley had 20 kills in Friday's 3-2 win over the Bulldogs as Tech defeated Ferris for the first time since November 2009. She hit .378 Saturday while tallying a match-high 20 kills as Tech beat the Bulldogs twice in a season for the first time since 2008. Ghormley ranks second in the GLIAC in kills per set (4.13) and is eighth in hitting percentage (.291) 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brooke Peiffer - Ashland 

Peiffer is the first AU player to win the award this season and her second career GLIAC weekly honor after also claiming it on Sept. 30, 2019. She also was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks Oct. 23 and Oct. 30, 2017 while playing for Lake Erie. Peiffer led the Eagles to a pair of home sweeps last week over Purdue Northwest, averaging 4.33 kills and 3.83 digs per set while hitting at a .423 clip. She had a double-double in each match, going for 11 kills and 13 digs on Friday, followed by 15 kills and 10 digs on Saturday. In Friday's match Peiffer also recorded her 1,000th career dig, giving her over 1,000 kills and digs for her career. For the season, Peiffer has 98 kills and 79 digs.
