GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week 2 of the 2021 volleyball season. Michigan Tech senior Anna Jonynas earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Davenport senior Hayley Kreiger captured GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Anna Jonynas - Michigan Tech
Senior outside hitter Anna Jonynas (Orland Park, Ill.) led Michigan Tech to a 4-0 weekend at the Illinois Springfield Capital Classic. She averaged 4.0 kills per set, 3.62 digs per set and hit .314 on the weekend. Jonynas compiled 16 kills each against Northwest Missouri State and Illinois-Springfield, and added 10 each against McKendree and Lake Erie. Her 47 dig total included 21 during a four-set match against Northwest Missouri State.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Hayley Kreiger - Davenport
Davenport senior Hayley Kreiger (South Haven, Mich.) led the Panthers to three wins in four matches at Walsh's Cavalier Invitational and was named the tournament's most-valuable player. For the week, she hit .293 with 72 kills and only 19 errors on 181 total attacks to go with seven aces, 39 digs, and 12 blocks. - Became the eighth member of DU's 1,000 kill club with a career high 26 kills against Notre Dame College. That effort was part of back-to-back double-doubles for the senior outside hitter. She set the program record for kills in a three-set match with 20 against the host school, Walsh. In that match, Kreiger made just one error on 31 swings for a .613 hitting percentage, which is good for sixth in program history. She now leads the league in kills (133), kills per set (3.91) and total attacks (360).
