FSU's O'Connell and MTU's Jonynas earn top weekly honors in volleyball

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week 4 of the 2021 volleyball season. Michigan Tech senior Anna Jonynas earned her second GLIAC Volleyball North Division Player of the Week award, while Ferris State junior Katie O'Connell captured her second GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolade. 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Anna Jonynas - Michigan Tech

Senior outside hitter Anna Jonynas (Orland Park, Ill.) averaged 4.67 kills per set to lead Michigan Tech to 3-0 sweeps over Lake Superior State and Northwood. She contributed 14 kills during each match and had a .308 attack percentage. Jonynas also totaled four aces, 18 digs and two blocks for the weekend.
 

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Katie O'Connell - Ferris State

Ferris State senior Katie O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill.) led the Bulldogs to a home sweep over two West Michigan rivals this past week. O'Connell had a team-high 15 kills and 24 digs as FSU rallied for a 3-2 triumph over Grand Valley State on Thursday night in Big Rapids, hitting .229 overall in the contest while adding three blocks and three service aces. She then came back to post a team-leading 13 kills with five digs, two aces and two blocks on Sunday in a 3-0 home shutout win over Davenport. For the weekend, O'Connell totaled 28 kills, 29 digs, six aces and five blocks for the Bulldogs.
