Saginaw Valley's Stimpfel and Fuerst Sweep GLIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week Accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the first meets of the 2019 cross country season. Saginaw Valley junior Morgan Fuerst captured GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors on the women's side, while Saginaw Valley State sophomore CarLee Stimpfel garnered the men's award after winning the Northwood Invitational.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: CarLee Stimpfel - Saginaw Valley State 

SVSU sophomore CarLee Stimpfel opened the 2019 season with a victory at the Northwood University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Stimpfel, a 2018 NCAA Division II All-American, posted a time of 18:24.6 in the 6K race to finish just over 22 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. He paced the Cardinal victory in the event, with SVSU placing all runners in the top-12 and four in the top-six.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Morgan Fuerst - Saginaw Valley State 

Cardinal junior Morgan Fuerst posted a five second victory to open the 2019 campaign at the Northwood University Invitational on Saturday. Fuerst claimed the top spot after registering a time of 18:17.6 in the 5K event. She paced an SVSU unit that placed four runners in the top-seven and helped the Cardinals get the victory with a tiebreaker over Northern Michigan University.
