Tech's Lange and Parkside's Baeuerle earn GLIAC weekly cross country honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first meets of the 2022 cross country season. Michigan Tech sophomore Sam Lange was named GLIAC Men's Athlete of the Week while Parkside redshirt sophomore Katja Baeuerle received GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week honors.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Sam Lange, Michigan Tech

Lange claimed his first collegiate cross country win at the Vic Godfrey Open hosted by Wisconsin Parkside on Friday night (Sept. 2). The Washington, Illinois, native paced the 6,000m course in 18:27.7. The Huskies won the team race scoring 24 points, beating Atlantic 10 affiliate Loyola, who placed second scoring 44 points.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Katja Baeuerle, Parkside

Katja Baeuerle ran away with the win in her season opener at the Vic Godfrey Open on Sept. 2. The Bretten, Germany native cruised around the 4k loop of the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in a time of 14:09.8, beating the rest of the field by nearly 21 seconds. Baeuerle ran 14 seconds faster than her performance at the 2021 Vic Godfrey Open, where she placed second. The Rangers next meet will be on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Denver, Colo. as they compete at the MSU Denver Roadrunner Invitational.
