AUGUSTA, Mich. -- Braving 40-degree temperatures, wind gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour and an early dousing of rain, GLIAC teams completed the first 36 holes of the 2024 men's golf championship on Friday at Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Mich.
Grand Valley State won the day, posting a field-best 2-under par. The Lakers were led by Nick Krueger, who shot a round-best 2-under, 69. Manuel Cue finished 1 stroke back from Krueger while Drew Coble tied for third (E, 71).
Ferris State ended the day in second (+6, 290), eight strokes behind GVSU. The Bulldogs' were headlined by Sam Havey, who tied Coble for third place.
Parkside is currently in third (+13, 297) followed by Wayne State (+16, 300), Saginaw Valley State (+17, 301), Davenport (+18, 302), Purdue Northwest (+21, 305), Northern Michigan (+26, 310) and Lake Superior State (+39, 323).
The 2024 GLIAC medalist will be determined after a second round of 18-hole stroke play on Saturday. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
The top four teams in the standings following 36 holes of stroke play will advance to match play semifinals on Saturday afternoon. The top two teams will then square off in an 18-hole showdown for the 2024 GLIAC team title on Sunday.

AUGUSTA, Mich. -- Day 2 of the 2024 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship produced an individual medalist, four medal match play semifinalists and the pairing for the medal match final.
Grand Valley State sophomore Bryce Wheeler earned his first-ever tournament victory on the the biggest of stages, claiming individual medalist honors by shooting a 6-under, 65 round today. Coupled with his round of 73 on Friday, Wheeler was a title-clinching 4-under for the 36 holes (138).
Laker teammates saturated the leaderboard, with Drew Coble and Manuel Cue Vargas tying for second (-2, 140), Nick Krueger placing third (-1, 141) and Charlie Cooley taking fifth (+1, 143).
Switching to medal match play based off the results of the two rounds of stroke play, Grand Valley State easily secured the top seed, finishing a collective 11-under (557). Wayne State (+15, 583), Ferris State (+18, 586) and Saginaw Valley State (+21, 589) also qualified for the semifinals.
Action in Saturday's afternoon medal match round was back-and-forth and down-to-the-wire. Grand Valley State held off a strong challenge from No. 4 seed Saginaw Valley State, winning, 3-1-1, and third seed Ferris State edged No. 2 Wayne State, 3-2.
Grand Valley State and Ferris State will meet on Sunday in an 18-hole medal match-play battle for the 2024 GLIAC championship.

AUGUSTA, Mich. -- Ferris State defeated Grand Valley State, 3-0-2, on Sunday afternoon at Stoatin Brae Golf Club in the medal match play finals of the 2024 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship to capture the conference title.
McCoy Biagioli, Zach Koerner and Caleb Bond each won their head-to-head matches to secure the crown for the Bulldogs. Bond shot a team-best 68 while Koerner posted a round of 69. FSU finished 14 shots better than GVSU overall.
Grand Valley State's Bryce Wheeler, the GLIAC's 2024 championship medalist, and Charlie Cooley earned ties for the Lakers, shooting rounds of 70 and 72, respectively.
