#1 GLIAC NORTH
MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES (24-8 ALL, 16-6 GLIAC)

2014-15 Michigan Tech Preview (by Brian Lester, GLIAC contributor)

Coach: Kevin Luke enters his 21st season as the head coach of the Huskies

Overview: MTU made it all the way to the Sweet 16 and expectations will be high again as the Huskies return a total of 13 letterwinners, including three starters. Success for the Huskies starts with senior guard Ben Stelzer, who averaged 17.8 points per outing and is one of the best outside shooters in the league, drilling 120 treys last season. Sophomore guard Jason Hawke averaged 6.5 ppg while junior guard Jordan Chartier averaged 4.8 ppg. MTU should be efficient again offensively and be one of the GLIAC’s top defensive teams as well. The Huskies allowed only 66 ppg and held teams to 44.7 percent shooting from the field.

Noteworthy: The Huskies tallied 446 assists and only turned the ball over 297 times.

Michigan Tech Sports Information Preview

Michigan Tech seeks to continue its success from last season when the Huskies won 24 games and finished as the NCAA Midwest Region Runner-Up. All-American Austin Armga has graduated, but Tech maintains a solid nucleus with which to rebuild.

Senior Ben Stelzer led the GLIAC in 3-point shooting a year ago and averaged 17.8 points per game. Jason Hawke was third on the team in scoring as a rookie guard in 2013-14. Starters Luke Heller (Jr., F) and Troy Hecht (Sr., F) also return to the fold. Junior point guard Jordan Chartier and 6-9 junior forward Kyle Stankowski should also make big impacts for coach Kevin Luke, who begins his 21st season (361-218 record) on the Tech bench.
