Coach: Steve Hettinga is entering his 8th season as the head coach of the Lakers

Overview: The Lakers won a North Division title last year and played in the NCAA tournament, advancing to the second round where it lost to 2013 national champion Drury. Three starters are back, including senior guard Alex Williams, a second-team All-GLIAC pick who averaged 14.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last season. Tony Harris and Jake Blake are also returning starters, with Harris averaging 10.1 ppg. Jordan Dasuqi didn’t start last year but did play in 32 games and averaged 5.5 points per outing. LSSU shot 38.5 percent from 3-point range last year and have three of their top shooting threats back in Williams, Dasuqi and Harris. Williams nailed 72 treys while Dasuqi and Harris hit 40 and 21 3-pointers, respectively.

Noteworthy: The Lakers were tough no matter where they played last season, going 14-3 at home and 12-3 on the road.

LSSU returns All-GLIAC Second Team guard Alex Williams, starting point guard Tony Harris and starting forward Jake Blake from last year’s 27-6 team, which made the program’s third NCAA Tournament appearance, tied a school record for single-season wins and won the GLIAC regular-season title. Williams averaged 14.3 points per game and ranked ninth in the league in average three-point field goals per game at 2.2. Blake ranked sixth in the GLIAC in rebounding (7.0 rpg), while Harris ranked seventh in assists (4.2 apg). All three returnees are seniors.

LSSU’s sophomore guard Jordan Dasuqi (5.5 ppg) and junior forward Devin Daly (3.9 ppg) also played key roles in 2013-14. The Lakers graduated All-GLIAC First Team players Derek Billing and Cameron Metz. Steve Hettinga, the 2014 GLIAC Coach of the Year, enters his eighth season at LSSU with a 117-85 record.
