#5 GLIAC NORTH
NORTHWOOD TIMBERWOLVES (18-13 ALL, 14-8 GLIAC)

2014-15 Northwood Preview (by Brian Lester, GLIAC contributor)

Coach: Jeff Rekeweg enters his fifth season as the head coach of the Timberwolves

Overview: Northwood saw its season end in the conference tournament where it lost a close first-round game to Walsh (84-76), but the Timberwolves seem to have the pieces in place to be even better this year. It helps that Dylan Langkabel is back after averaging 14.0 points per outing. The junior guard nailed 58 treys, the most on the team. Also back for NU are senior center Will Bowles and junior guard Khalid King. Bowles averaged 12.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and will give the Timberwolves a strong presence in the post. King knocked down 43 treys and averaged 9.5 ppg. Scoring shouldn’t be an issue for NU. The Timberwolves have also added experience with the addition of point guard Maurice Jones, a two-year starter at USC. The Timberwolves also added guard Jermaine Myers from Fordham. Those two should make an immediate impact, and with the experience NU already has back, the Timberwolves should be poised to take a big step forward.

Noteworthy: Maurice Jones, who hails from Saginaw, Mich., was rated one of the top point guards in the nation coming out of high school.

Northwood Sports Information Preview

While the 2014-15 Northwood men’s basketball team will have a different look, the expectations for the team are as high as they have ever been. Northwood returns a talented core of veteran players and should get big contributions from a highly-decorated list of newcomers.

Leading the veterans on the team are returners Will Bowles, Dylan Langkabel and Khalid King. Bowles averaged 12.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor. Langkabel was second on the team a year ago in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game, while King averaged 9.5 points per game in his first year at Northwood. Other returning players include senior Tony Johnson, Casey Boyle and Matt Crowl. A big part of the excitement about the team revolves around a pair of transfers. Junior point guard Maurice Jones is ready to go after having to sit out last season after coming to Northwood from Southern California. Jermaine Myers joins the backcourt from Fordham University as well. Fellow newcomers Kyle Godfrey, Mikey Jones, P.J. Weaver and Charlie Ryan have all show the ability to contribute this season.
