#8 GLIAC SOUTH
OHIO DOMINICAN (5-21 ALL, 3-19 GLIAC)

2014-15 Ohio Dominican Preview (by Brian Lester, GLIAC contributor)

Coach: Dan Evans enters his second season as the coach of the Panthers

Overview: The Panthers closed the year with seven consecutive losses. The only direction to go this year is up. Its quest for improvement will be aided by the return of its top three scorers. Junior guard Mark Minch led the team in scoring, averaging 13.4 ppg. Junior guard Chad Nelson averaged 11.8 ppg and junior forward Trent Weaver put up 11.2 points per outing. Nelson led the team in 3-pointers made (33) and also dished out 58 assists. The Panthers should be able to improve on their offensive average of 67.3 ppg. If that number improves, along with making strides defensively, ODU will have a chance to take a step forward. It also helps that they have added three key newcomers in Ronnie Williams, Shemar Waugh and Michael DeLeon. DeLeon played in the Ohio vs. Kentucky All-Star Game last year.

Noteworthy: Mark Minch is the team’s top returning steals leader. He tallied 18 last year.

Ohio Dominican Sports Information Preview

The Ohio Dominican men’s basketball team will look to improve in year two under head coach Dan Evans. The Panthers will rely on a combination of key returners, as well as, a bundle of newcomers. This season ODU will return eight players from last season’s roster, while adding six freshmen and a sophomore transfer, and a walk-on.

In the 2013-14 season, ODU was led by three sophomores in scoring, and all three are back for their junior seasons. Mark Minch (13.4), Chad Nelson (11.8) and Trent Weaver (11.2) each averaged double digits in scoring. Weaver was also third in the GLIAC in rebounds per game, averaging eight.

Another returner for the Panthers is senior big man Bobby Stauffer. Stauffer played in four games last season before an injury ended his season. In the 2012-13 season, Stauffer averaged 11.2 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per contest.

The new Black and Gold members have some success that they bring with them to the program. Overall, the eight newcomers have three All-Ohio and nine All-Conference selections, including six first team honorees in their respected conferences.
