#5 GLIAC NORTH
HILLSDALE CHARGERS (12-15 ALL, 11-11 GLIAC)

2014-15 Hillsdale Preview (by Brian Lester, GLIAC contributor)

Coach: Claudette Chaney is entering her 13th season as the head coach of the Chargers

Overview: The Chargers are coming off a tough season a year ago but should be ready to have success this year as several key players are back, including first-team All-American Megan Fogt. Fogt, a senior forward, led HC in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per outing, and was also the top rebounder, grabbing 16.1 rebounds per outing. Junior guards Kelsey Cromer and Madison Berry, along with junior forward Sarah Theut, all have valuable experience. Berry averaged 9.1 points per outing  and came up with 23 steals. Cromer averaged 6.6 ppg and Theut averaged 4.1 ppg. Newcomers Morgan Blair and Michele Boykin, both guards, along with center Allie Dittmer, will have a chance to make an impact right away. If the Chargers can get the job done at home --- they went 6-5 there last year --- they will be in a position to have a winning season.

Noteworthy: Fogt, the leading rebounder in the country a year ago, was named the GLIAC Player of the Year and Midwest Region of the Year last season.

Hillsdale Sports Information Preview

Excitement is running high around the Hillsdale College women’s basketball program as the sun rises on the 2014-15 campaign. With many returning players complemented by a deep and talented freshman class, coach Claudette Charney has hopes of making her team a contender in its first season competing in the GLIAC North Division.

Senior Megan Fogt returns after a remarkable 2013-14 season that saw her lead the nation in rebounding (16.1) and was named GLIAC Player of the Year, Daktronics Midwest Region Player of the Year and First-Team All-American. Not only did she dominate the paint all season last year, she gained valuable experience along with fellow seniors Chelsea Farrell, Kadie Lowery and Brooke Borowski. Together, they form a solid leadership core for this team.

The junior class is also deep and versatile. Guard Madison Berry was second on the team in scoring average, while players like Kelsey Cromer, Sarah Theut and Kayla Geffert give the team a nice combination of shooting, rebounding and defense.

Seven players joined the program in the offseason, highlighted by sophomore guard Morgan Blair, who transferred to Hillsdale from Division I Northern Kentucky. Freshmen Allie Dittmer and Michele Boykin each led their prep teams to state championships last year and are expected to contribute right away this season.
