Coach: Bob Booher enters his 10th season as the head coach of the Storm
Overview: The Storm has three players back with valuable starting experience and that is a good sign for an LEC team hoping to have a winning season. Senior guard Jackie Murray will play a key role in turning things around for the Storm after averaging 11.1 points per outing last year. Murray led the team in 3-pointers (61) and also dished out 56 assists. Senior forward Chloe Irish started 18 games and averaged 7.8 ppg. She also grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game and was second on the team in steals (45). Kaeding Skelton, a junior center, started 27 times and averaged 6.8 rebounds per outing. She was also solid on defense as she tallied 17 steals and blocked 10 shots. The Storm has to be able to improve offensively to succeed. A year ago, it averaged just 61.2 ppg. Three newcomers could help the offense in Teresa Lapore, Kayla Gabor and Christine Dawson. Lepore comes all the way to Painesville from South Africa.
Noteworthy: The Storm won more games on the road last season (6) than they did at home (3).
Lake Erie Sports Information Preview
The Lake Erie College women’s basketball looks to build upon a solid 2013-14 campaign in 2014-15. The Storm went 5-17 in GLIAC play but were 10-18 overall. They return several key players from last year, including senior guard Jackie Murray, who led the Storm with 11.1 points per game. Murray also averaged 2.8 rpg. and 2.4 apg. She will be joined by senior forward Chloe Irish. Irish averaged 7.8 ppg. and 4.5 rpg. last season while also collecting 44 steals. Junior center Kaeding Skelton will provide a rebounding presence for the Storm after she averaged 5.2 rpg. last year. Sami Narducci returns after finishing near the top of the GLIAC in steals last year. The Storm will have plenty of depth as several players saw significant playing time last season, such as Daija Jones, Brianna Shagovac and Shelby Carpenter.
The Storm welcomes three newcomers to the team. Teresa Lepore joins the Storm from Johannesburg, South Africa as a guard. Guard Kayla Gabor and Center Christine Dawson will also join the Storm from nearby Mentor High School.
