THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES

  • The Huskies will take on Purdue Northwest on Friday (Oct. 1) at 5 p.m. at Kearly Stadium. 

  • Michigan Tech will then host UP rival Northern Michigan on Sunday (Oct. 3) at Noon. The game will be aired on TV6. 

  • The Huskies are 4-3 overall and 1-2 in GLIAC play.

 

A RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND

 

SCOUTING PURDUE NORTHWEST

  • The Pride are 1-6-1 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC.

  • PNW has been outscored 25-7 in their eight outings this season.

  • Their most recent game was a 4-0 loss to Grand Valley State on Sunday (Sept. 26).

  • Coached by Jake Truty, entering his 3rd season at the helm.

 

SCOUTING NORTHERN MICHIGAN

  • The Wildcats are 4-4 on the season and 2-2 in the GLIAC. 

  • NMU has outscored their opponents 18-15 so far this season. 

  • Northern's most recent outing was a 5-1 win at Davenport on Sunday (Sept. 26).

  • The Wildcats are led by senior midfielder Caroline Halonen, who has four goals and three assists (11 pts) this season. She was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first week of the 2021 season. 

  • Jon Sandoval is in his second season as head coach of the Wildcats.


FOX-UP AND TV6 COVERAGE

  • For the first time in program history, Michigan Tech soccer will be aired on TV. The Huskies and Wildcats will be aired across the Upper Peninsula on FOX-UP & TV6 on Sunday (Oct. 3).

  • Game coverage starts at Noon live from Kearly Stadium.

  • Mark Evans and Dave Ellis will be on the call. 

 

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

  • The Huskies and the Pride last faced off on April 18, 2021 in Houghton, a 3-0 victory for the Black and Gold. Grace Shaw, Kiersen Korienek, and Haley Ruiter scored for the Huskies.

  • Michigan Tech last faced off against Northern Michigan on March 28, 2021 in Marquette. The Huskies fell 3-1 to the Wildcats. Haley Ruiter got the goal for the Huskies.

 

STATISTICAL LEADERS

 

ALL-GLIAC RETURNEES

  • The Black and Gold return four all-GLIAC players from last season.

  • Fifth year senior Jesse Jacobusse led the Huskies with seven goals and 15 points in the spring season.

  • Joining Jacobusse on the attack is senior and co-captain Grace Shaw. Shaw recorded four goals and added five assists in the 2021 spring campaign. She was second on the team with 13 points. 

  • Also anchoring the Huskies' lineup are senior Brooke Schauer and junior Neve Badalow. Schauer recorded two goals and five assists (nine points) last season while Badalow assisted on two goals and had a stellar season on the defensive end. 

      

PRESEASON POLL

  • The Huskies were selected to finish fourth in the GLIAC Preseason Poll.

  • The Pride were picked to finish ninth while the Wildcats slotted in at third. 

  • Grand Valley State and Ferris State were picked to finish first and second in the conference.

COACH OZTURK

  • Head Coach Bulut Ozturk is in his second season with the Huskies.

  • Under Ozturk, the Huskies have gone from a 5-10-1 record in 2019 to a 5-4-1 record last season.

  • He led the Huskies to a return to the GLIAC Quarterfinals. 

  • During the regular season, Ozturk coached the Huskies to an overtime tie on the road against No. 1 ranked Grand Valley State.

 

LAST SEASON

  • The Huskies finished the 2021 spring season with a 5-4-1 overall record, reaching the GLIAC Quarterfinals.

 

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

  • The Huskies will hit the road on Friday, Oct. 8 when they head to Big Rapids to take on #11 Ferris State at 4 p.m. 

  • The Black and Gold will return home on Sunday, Oct. 10 to take on Parkside at Noon.
