Kasuboski's 3-Pointers Lift Huskies to Win

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Senior Lynn Giesler tallied her first double-double of the season with 14 points and a season-high 10 rebounds to lead the No. 19 Michigan Tech women's basketball team to a 59-42 win at Saginaw Valley State Saturday (Jan. 14).

Tech improves to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the league and has won the last 10 meetings against Saginaw Valley.

"Saginaw is a tough place to play," said head coach Kim Cameron. "They played tough defense and challenged our shots."

The Huskies came out strong on defense holding SVSU scoreless for the first five minutes and built an eight point lead. Tech's lead would grow to as many as 12 points before settling to seven, 27-20, at halftime.

Senior Krista Kasuboski made four consecutive 3-pointers for the Huskies in the opening minutes of the second half to give Tech a 13 point lead. Kasuboski finished with 14 points and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.

"Krista made some big shots to separate us from the Cardinals," said coach Cameron.

Tech's largest lead of the game would be 17 at the end 59-42.

Junior Sam Hoyt finished with a game-high 15 points, and senior Lindsey Lindstrom added 12.

The Huskies dominated the glass finishing with a 47-27 advantage.

Grace Herzog, who ranks fourth in the nation in blocks (2.9 per game), recorded five of Saginaw's eight blocks in the game.

Samantha Zirzow and Kayla Womack each scored a team-high 11 points for the Cardinals.

Tech will host Ferris State Thursday (Jan. 19).
