ASHLAND, Ohio — Michigan Tech stormed back from down 14 to close within one before falling at No. 7-ranked Ashland 69-63 today in GLIAC women's basketball. The Huskies had the ball trailing by three under a minute but turned it over, allowing the Eagles to ice the game at the line.

AU (14-0, 8-0 GLIAC) led 58-44 with eight minutes remaining before Tech (8-4, 6-2 GLIAC) made its run. The Huskies scored nine straight points, then closed within 60-58 with 3:01 showing.

Andi Daugherty answered with two straight layups for a 64-58 lead. A Morgan Anderson free throw, Danielle Blake steal and layup and two Kylie Moxley free throws brought the visitors with 64-63 with 49 seconds left.

Daugherty made another layup for a three-point margin at :30.

Tech tried to feed Moxley in the post on the ensuing possession, but had it stolen away. Laina Snyder made two free throws for the final score of 68-63.

"We had a lull in the third quarter, and that's where we lost the game," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "We made a great comeback. If we had kept it to a six- or eight-point game, we were fine. Fourteen was too many."

The teams battled to a draw after two quarters of play. Neither team led by more than four points while the lead changed hands nine times.

Ashland made 11-of-15 field goals to outscore the Huskies 26-14 in the third quarter. Tech put up 21 points in the fourth quarter.

AU finished the game at 51 percent compared to 38 percent for the Black and Gold.

Anderson finished with a team-high 14 points. Moxley had 13 points and eight rebounds while Lindsay Winter scored 12 points.

The Eagles were led by Daugherty's 24 points.

Michigan Tech's next game will come on Thursday (Jan. 14) at Ferris State.
