#5 Ferris State Suffers First Setback In Road Decision At Parkside

Somers, Wis. - The nationally fifth-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad suffered its first setback of the season on Saturday (Dec. 9) as the Bulldogs fell 79-70 at Parkside in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at DeSimone Gymnasium.

FSU fell to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC with the decision following its opening league road trip of the year.

The Rangers got off to a strong start in the first half and outscored FSU 38-26 in the opening two periods of action. FSU's Chloe Idoni had to sit much of the second quarter after picking up her second foul in the opening half.

FSU cut the lead down to four in the opening minutes of the second half before the Rangers responded and built a 60-44 lead thru three periods. FSU cut into the margin in the fourth, but could not ever reclaim the advantage.

Kadyn Blanchard paced Ferris State with 18 points while the trio of Idoni along with Kenzie Bowers and Mallory McCartney all had 13 points each.

The Rangers, who moved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC, got 19 points from Sheridan Flauger along with 12 by Gabriela Lois and 10 from Grace Lomen in a balanced effort.

UWP shot 47.2% for the game compared to 38.8% for the Bulldogs and also made 12-of-25 (48%) three's overall. FSU finished eight-of-25 (32%) from long range and was slightly out rebounded by a 36-35 count.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday, Dec. 16, as they visit nationally top-ranked Ashland for a Midwest Regional showdown starting at 1 p.m. (ET) inside Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio. The contest will be FSU's final game prior to the holiday break and the New Year.
