Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's fifth-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action with a 65-57 road win over Purdue Northwest on Thursday (Dec. 7) evening in Westville, Ind.
In FSU's first-ever trip to Purdue Northwest's Westville campus, the Bulldogs built a 27-point second half lead and held on down the stretch for the eight-point win as the Pride rallied but could get no closer down the stretch.
Ferris State held a slim 15-13 edge after the opening period, but outscored the Pride 26-7 in the second quarter to take control of the game.
Overall, Ferris State shot 41.5% from the floor and went nine-of-20 (45%) from three-point range in the win. FSU also outrebounded Purdue Northwest 43-34 in moving to 5-0 overall this year.
The Bulldogs received 15 points and nine rebounds from senior guard Mallory McCartney while senior center Chloe Idoni notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kadyn Blanchard also chipped in 10 points for FSU.
Ferris State outscored PNW 32-24 inside the paint and 16-9 in points off turnovers. Defensively, the Bulldogs held the Pride to only 33.3% shooting, which included a seven-of-24 (29.2%) showing from long range.
Dash Shaw led four Purdue Northwest players in double-figure scoring with 16 points as PNW fell to 3-4 overall this year.
The Bulldogs will close out their first league road trip against Parkside on Saturday (Dec. 9) starting at 2 p.m. (ET) in Kenosha, Wis.
