Ferris State Volleyball Puts On Show Before Local Elementary Schools In Win Over LSSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad put on a show on Monday (Oct. 24) as the Bulldogs topped Lake Superior State in a 3-0 sweep during a matinee match played in front of hundreds of local elementary students inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs hosted the Lakers in the afternoon affair with schools from across the area on hand, cheering on FSU and flooding the concessions stands. The match was quick as FSU rolled to a 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 triumph with the Bulldogs sticking around following the contest to sign autographs for many of the young fans.

Ferris State hit an impressive .317 for the afternoon and produced 45 kills with only 12 attack errors on 104 attempts.

FSU was led by Claire Nowicki's match-high 12 kills and Syann Fairfield added 10 kills in the balanced effort. Setter Kaylee Maat fueled the attack with 35 assists.

Defensively, libero Leah Bylut came up with 15 digs in leading the Bulldogs. Alina Anderson chipped in with nine digs while both Nowicki and Emma Bleecher totaled seven digs. The Bulldogs finished with 47 digs as a squad.

Overall, the Bulldogs also had 20 block assists and two solo blocks in a strong performance at the net. Chelsie Freeman posted five assisted blocks with Fairfield adding four assists and a solo block. Olivia Henneman-Dallape also had four block assists.

Finally, Ferris State finished with four service aces, but also had 13 service mistakes.

The Bulldogs held Lake Superior State to a .078 attack percentage and the Lakers netted 29 kills with 21 attack errors on 102 attempts overall. LSSU compiled 42 digs to go with six aces, six block assists and two solo blocks.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 17-9 overall and remains atop the GLIAC standings with a 12-2 league mark. LSSU fell to 4-21 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

The Bulldogs continue a five-match homestand this weekend as they host West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 28) at 5 p.m. (ET) before entertaining Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 3 p.m. (ET).
