Ferris State Falls In Opener At GVSU Before Rain Halts Game Two Play Monday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad took on rival and nationally seventh-ranked Grand Valley State on Monday (April 3) in Allendale, falling 2-1 in a tightly-contested opener before game two was postponed due to rain.

The Bulldogs trailed early in the second game 1-0 before the postponement. No make up date or time has yet been set.

In the game that was played, the Bulldogs tied the game up 1-1 in the top of the third before the Lakers answered in the bottom of the inning to move ahead 2-1. The score stood from there as neither team found the scoreboard the rest of the way. GVSU posted seven hits compared to six for FSU.

Senior Kaitlyn Orme led FSU with a pair of hits while Natalie Teague drove in the Bulldogs' lone run in the third frame.

In the pitching circle, the Bulldogs' Aryn Gallacher had a strong performance, holding the Lakers to only two runs on seven hits in pitching all six innings. She struck out two and walked three. Meanwhile, GVSU's Hannah Beatus improved to 9-1 on the year, holding FSU to a single run on six hits with eight K's and two walks in seven frames.

The Lakers scored the first run of game two in the bottom of the first and held a 1-0 lead when play in the nightcap was stopped in the top of the second inning.

Ferris State is next slated to open a four-game weekend homestead on Friday (April 7) as the Bulldogs host Purdue Northwest beginning at 1 p.m. (ET) for a league twin bill at the FSU Softball Field. FSU then hosts Parkside on Saturday (April 8) in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
