Ferris State Men's Tennis Opens Weekend Action With Home Win Over Grace

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad opened weekend home action with a decisive 7-0 sweep over visiting Grace (Ind.) on Friday (Feb. 23) afternoon inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The host Bulldogs topped Grace, which is ranked 16th nationally among all NAIA schools. FSU also improved to 3-1 overall this spring with the victory.

Ferris State jumped out to the early edge by taking the doubles point, capturing wins at all three singles flights by scores of 6-4, 6-1 and 6-0 from the first to the third positions, respectively.

In singles play, the Bulldogs took three-set wins at one and four singles while the second, third, fifth and sixth flights were all determined in straight-sets.

One of the day's highlights came at one singles where Benjamin Lortie scored a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over Grace's Javi Gallego, who is the nation's ninth-ranked singles player in NAIA tennis.

Grace fell to 11-2 overall this year with the setback.

The Bulldogs will be back in action with a pair of regional home tilts this weekend. FSU hosts Lewis (Ill.) on Saturday (Feb. 24) starting at 10 a.m. (ET) for the women and 2 p.m. (ET) for the men.

The Bulldogs will then host Hillsdale on Sunday (Feb. 25) beginning at 11 a.m. (ET) for the women and 3 p.m. (ET) for the men.
