Bulldog Volleyball Beats Wayne State In GLIAC Opener On The Road

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad rallied for a 3-2 win on the road in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener over Wayne State on Thursday (Sept. 14) night in Detroit.

The Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 in the match, but claimed a 25-14 win in the fourth set and a 15-7 victory in the fifth to move to 6-3 overall this year. The Bulldogs had won the first frame 25-13 before WSU took sets two and three by scores of 25-18 and 25-21, respectively.

Emma Bleecher paced the Bulldogs with 13 kills while Syann Fairfield added 11 kills and Olivia Henneman-Dallape notched 10 kills. Setter Kaylee Maat had 43 assists and a team-high 16 digs with libero Leah Bylut adding 14 digs and Bleecher 11 digs.

The Bulldogs also got eight kills and five block assists from Claire Nowicki along with seven kills and six block assists from Chelsie Freeman. Fairfield led FSU at the net with eight block assists overall.

Ferris State posted a .229 hitting percentage and came up with 53 kills, 67 digs, 28 block assists, five service aces and two solo blocks. FSU hit an impressive .455 in the deciding fifth set with 11 kills and only a single error on 22 attacks.

Wayne State was held to a .068 attack percentage and the Warriors finished with 45 kills, 68 digs, nine aces and eight block assists. Molly Miller had a team-high 13 kills and Ella Uganski added 11 kills for the Warriors.

WSU finished the fifth set with only three kills and three errors on 19 attempts.

The Bulldogs will return home to host Parkside in GLIAC play on Saturday (Sept. 16) afternoon starting at 3 p.m. (ET) inside Bulldog Arena.
