Ferris State Comes Up Just Short In Quest To Finish GLIAC Regular Season Play Unbeaten

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad came up just short in its quest to finish Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season action unbeaten as Wayne State garnered a 7-0 triumph over the Bulldogs on Saturday (April 16).

The Warriors handed FSU its only GLIAC setback of the year in the contest played at the Peachtree Tennis Club in Clinton Township.

The match pitted a pair of nationally-ranked squads with the Warriors 11th in the D2 National Rankings entering the match and FSU 20th overall.

Wayne State jumped in front early by winning two of the three doubles flights for the first point of the evening. FSU's lone win came from the tandem of Mathis Guerre and Jan Koupil by a 6-3 count at the number one flight.

The Warriors then proceeded to sweep the singles round, which included a three-set victory at two singles and a win from Dom Spicer, the nation's 33rd-ranked performer, at the top flight in the lineup.

With the win, Wayne State improved to 18-4 overall and 6-0 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs fell to 15-3 overall and finished regular-season play at 6-1 in conference play. The Warriors still have one regular-season conference match remaining at Northwood on April 23.

Ferris State will next take part in the GLIAC Tournament set for April 29-May 1 in Midland.
