Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team opened the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament with a convincing 10-3 triumph over Wayne State on Thursday (May 2) afternoon at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill.

The Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie with eight runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back in earning the triumph. The Warriors scored their only runs in the top of the fourth, but FSU answered with two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning and kept WSU off the board from there.

With the win, Ferris State advances to face top-seeded Grand Valley State in day two action on Friday (May 3) starting at 12 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs tallied 10 hits in the win, including two each from both shortstop Emma Gillard and left fielder Maddie Gkekas. Second baseman Jadyn Joseph drove in three runs and Gkekas had two RBI's in the victory.
