Ferris State Tops Wayne State In GLIAC Battle To Complete Home Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - A big second-half lifted the Ferris State University men's basketball squad to its second home win of the week as the Bulldogs topped visiting Wayne State 77-69 on Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs trailed by a point, 37-36, at halftime, but outscored WSU 41-32 over the final 20 minutes to garner the win. The victory came on the heels of a 78-72 triumph over Saginaw Valley State on Thursday evening.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 19-6 overall and one win away from notching yet another 20-win campaign. FSU also improved to 9-5 in conference play with the victory.

Ferris State got a game-high 26 points from junior Ethan Erickson, who hit four three's. Meanwhile, senior guard Ben Davidson added 18 points for the Bulldogs in the win.

FSU shot 42.4% form the floor and went only four-of-19 (21.1%) from the three-point arc in addition to 23-of-26 (88.5%) at the free throw line with a strong showing down the strech.

Defensively, the Bulldogs limited Wayne State to 44.2% shooting and the Warriors managed to make six-of-20 (30.0%) three's along with 17-of-25 (68.0%) free throws.

Ferris State slightly outrebounded the Warriors 37-34 for the day and FSU had nine offensive boards overall. The Bulldogs also had only seven turnovers and outscored Wayne State 13-7 in points off turnovers.

The Warriors got 16 points from Rob Lee, Jr., along with 15 by Jordan Briggs in falling to 10-14 overall and 4-11 in the GLIAC.

As part of Saturday's game, the Bulldogs also honored the program's 2003-04 GLIAC Championship team that celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special halftime ceremony.

Ferris State will take on archrival Grand Valley State next Thursday (Feb. 22) evening in Allendale with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (ET) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
