Bulldogs Buzz Pride, Run Unbeaten Streak To 13

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second-straight outing, the nationally #9 ranked Ferris State Women's Soccer team fired 30+ shots on goal and cruised, this time to a 6-0 victory over the Purdue Northwest Pride in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Friday (Oct. 22) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

It was the second consecutive game senior Graci VerHage fired a pair of goals with an assist to run her career-high point total to 30, just three away from the fifth most single-season points in school history, while freshman keeper Darya Mosallaei posted her eighth shutout, one away from the single-season program record set by Grace Kraft (9 in 2016).

Ferris State wasted no time and scored 30 seconds in when VerHage netted her career-best tenth goal of the season. Junior Nikki May talled her fourth helper of the year on the play, floating it high past the defense from the midfield for a 1-0 lead and the eventual game-winning goal.

The Bulldogs and their score-in-bunches style kicked into gear again at 23:36 when senior Bri Rogers finished off a cross from junior Isabella Zamborini for her seventh goal of the year and a 2-0 Bulldog lead. Zamborini notched her fourth assist of the year on the play while May snagged her fifth.

A little over three minutes later, VerHage took advantage when goalkeeper Ashley Lovins fumbled the ball away on a sliding play. VerHage scored her 11th goal of the year and second of the day at 26:51. Senior Pia Nagel picked up her fourth assist of the campaign on the play, serving the ball in for VerHage to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at the half. 

Early in the second half, Rogers cleaned up a scrum in the box for her second goal of the year at 52:28 for a 4-0 Ferris State lead. Gilmore (3) and May (6) picked up the helpers on the play.

Less than two minutes later at 54:18, Nagel fired a long shot that beat the keeper high from the middle of the field above the box for a 5-0 Ferris State lead and her ninth goal of the season. VerHage (8) earned the assist on the play for the Bulldogs.

With just seven seconds remaining, sophomore Sydney Stones chipped in a ball from short range for her second goal of the year and a 6-0 final. Sophomore Kortlyn Schwenke picked up her second assist of the year on the play.

The Bulldogs outshot the Pride 32-5 on the day with an 18-5 advantage in shots on goal. Mosallaei made five stops for her 11th win of the season and eighth clean sheet while Lovins made 12 saves in the loss for Purdue Northwest.

With the win, Ferris State is unbeaten in its last 13 games, the second-longest streak in team history only to a 14-game stretch in 2018mduring which, Ferris State made its first NCAA Tournament Appearance. The Bulldogs are also two goals away from tying the program record for most goals scored in a single season, set in 2019 (50).

Ferris State next heads north to square off with the Michigan Tech Huskies on Sunday (Oct. 24) at Sherman Field in GLIAC play at 12 p.m. (ET) in Houghton.
